 Fukushima University's Fermentation and Brewing Research Institute has developed a limited edition junmai ginjo sake called "Shokunogakurui Ichi", which is now available for purchase. The sake has a refreshing muscat-like aroma and a sharp taste. Director Miki Matsuda and others from the institute announced the completion of the sake at a press conference on the university campus on April 12th. The institute formed a collaborative team with Mirai Nougyou, and has been conducting research and development on sake-making suitable for the climate and soil of Fukushima Prefecture since 2021. They selected strains of rice that mature earlier from the Yamada Nishiki variety, and improved the rice through breeding. Last year, using rice harvested from Mirai Nougyou's fields, Suzuki Shuzo in Namie-cho brewed the sake, which was completed in March of this year.  The popular Lunch Pack product by Yamazaki Bakery has collaborated with the Hikone Castle, a national treasure, to offer a limited-time "Red Curry with Three Fruits and Five Vegetables" until the end of May at convenience stores and supermarkets in the Kinki region. The curry is named after the "Akabimono" (red attire) of the Ii family, the lord of the Hikone Castle, who had a territory of 350,000 koku and fought with armor that was unified in red. The curry contains three types of fruits (apples, bananas, and mangoes) and five types of vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions, etc.) and is wrapped inside the Lunch Pack.
